Ever since production started onGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2in February, directorJames Gunnhas shared a number of photos and hand-drawn illustrations from the Atlanta set. With production winding down, the filmmaker took to social media earlier today to drop quite the cryptic hint about his sequel. While we don’t know for sure, it seems that the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) may be putting in an appearance inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The director posted a new photo onInstagram, where he’s seen holding Thor’s iconic hammer,Mjolnir. The filmmaker added in his caption, “I’m starting to think this has nothing to being worthy.” While this certainly isn’t confirmation that the mighty Asgardian will be joining Star-Lord, Groot and the rest of the Guardians. It’s possible that a Thor appearance inGuardians of the Galaxy 2could be used to help set upThor: Ragnarok.
While no official story details were given forThor 3, it has been teased several times that Thor will team up withMark Ruffalo’s Hulk on a “cosmic road trip.” It has been rumored thatCate Blanchett’s Hela teams up with Loki and banishes Thor from Asgard and even destroys his hammer Mjolnir. Thor reportedly ends up on a gladiator planet where he’s forced to face the current champion in battle, Hulk.
We know thatThor: Ragnarokwill begin production sometime this summer in Australia, so it’s possible thatChris Hemsworthcould swing by to put in an appearance inGuardians of the Galaxy 2before starting work onThor 3.James Gunnalso teased Twitter that there are only two weeks left of production, while releasing the latest #WhatWeShotWednesday illustration. We’re not exactly sure who is featured in this new illustration, but you can take a look at it below, along withJames Gunn’s Mjolnir photo.
We don’t expectJames Gunnto confirm one way or another if Thor will be present inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, production will be winding down on the sequel soon, so perhaps it’s possible that the studio may present a first look of the movie at San Diego Comic Con next month. While we wait for more details, take a look atJames Gunn’s Mjolnir photo, and the latest #WhatWeShotWednesday illustration below.
