The internet is never too far away from a good casting rumor about who could be the next star to take on the role ofJames Bond. Since it was announced that Daniel Craig would be departing the franchise, as it turns out in the most final way any Bond actor ever has, social media has seen every prominent actor from Henry Cavill, to Rege-Jean Page, andAaron Taylor-Johnson being in the frame at one point or another. However, long-time Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has once again put the brakes on the runaway rumor train, which has been picking up speed once again in the last few weeks.

There have been many rumors and reactions recently in relation to the hunt for the next Bond turning towards Taylor-Johnson being the frontrunner to take over the role of the super spy, in what was atone time rumored to be a reimagining of Bond as a younger character. However, while speaking toLADBible, Broccoli shot down all rumors currently doing the rounds with a simple update on where the franchise reboot is currently sitting. She said:

Daniel Craig as James Bond with Aston Martin DB5

“No, we haven’t even started casting yet. There isn’t even a script.”

While many rumors have suggested that development of the next instalment of the Bond franchise is well under way, it seems that this is not the case. For that reason, word on exactly who will be taking over as the lead in Bond 26 is something that is clearly going to be a long time coming.

Bond 26 Is Not Going to be Rushed Out in The Wake of Daniel Craig’s Departure

It is not unusual for the Bond franchise to take a break between actors and on a number of occasions the franchise has taken a few years to decide on their next star and the direction he will take. How the next iteration of the character will arrive on the big screen is still to be revealed, but as the franchise hits its 60th anniversary, it is clear that James Bond still has plenty of miles to run.

Daniel Craig’s final appearance inNo Time to Dieensured that his version of the action hero was brought to very final end, withBond dying in a blaze of glory. As something that has never happened before in the franchise, it certainly set the scene for a complete reset of the Bond story as even changing actor has not necessarily brought with it a brand-new timeline. For example, the character of M has frequently leaked across different eras, with the most recent being Dame Judi Dench’s M having been in place for both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s tenure until she was replaced by Ralph Fiennes.

Based on the latest update from Broccoli, is would not be too exaggerated to believe that we will probably not see Bond 26 hitting cinemas until at least 2026. Until then, let the speculation on the lucky 7th actor to take on the role continue.
