The filmmaker was expected to return along with most of the stars from this year’s blockbusterDeadpool, but now 20th Century Fox is looking for a new director. While this of the beloved Marvel comic book is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of its directors,James Gunn, expressed his dismay thatTim Millerwas leaving. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say below.

During the post credits sequence of this year’s blockbusterDeadpool,Ryan Reynoldsreturned in a sequence modeled after the post credits scene inFerris Bueler’s Day Off, where he told fans that Cable will be featured inDeadpool 2.
Tim Millermade his directorial debut with the originalDeadpool, after working invisual effectsonScott Pilgrim vs. the Worldand a number of video games such asStar Wars: The Old Republicthrough his visual effects company Blur Studios. The filmmaker hasn’t committed to any other projects as of yet, but after the incredible and unexpected box office success of the R-ratedDeadpool, it seems likely he’ll be offered a slew of different projects, now that this sequel is off his slate.
As for the Cable character, there has been recent rumors thatLiam Neesonis being eyed for the coveted role. We also reported last week that actressesLizzy Caplan,Mary Elizabeth Winstead,Sienna Miller,Sofia Boutella,Stephanie SigmanandSylvia Hoekshave all tested to play Domino in this sequel, but we don’t know when a final decision on the character will be made. 20th Century Fox is reportedly eyeing a 2018 release date for this sequel.
