Tin Soldieris one step closer to marching onto screens. The previously in-limbo action-thriller has received a long-awaited update, three years after production on the movie got underway. Samuel Goldwyn Films has snagged the North American distribution rights to the film, per Deadline, following hot on the heels ofanother high-profile distribution dealthe company has secured in recent months. The highly anticipatedTin Solider, which stars big names likeJamie Foxx,Robert De Niro, andScott Eastwood, is expected to debut sometime this year, so hopefully a release date won’t be far behind now that it has officially been picked up.

Eastwood asserted in January of this year that Tin Soldierwould be getting a release, but, at that point in time, no one had acquired the rights. He also teased his role in the film by explaining where he fits into the story, telling MovieWeb that other characters “gotta go to him because they need to find a way into this cult… like a military cult… Then the government wants to shut it down, so they have to come back and find this one guy who had been there before. That’s me. And so that’s sort of the character I play.”

Eastwood plays a character named Nash Cavanaugh, who can be glimpsed in the first-look image featured below coming face-to-face with Foxx’s disciple The Bokushi. This appears to be one of the meetings that the actor alluded to, but there is no sign of the rest ofthe star-studded ensemble, which includes John Leguizamo (John Wick, John Wick 2), Shamier Anderson (John Wick: Chapter 4),Rita Ora (Fifty Shadesfranchise), and more.

What Is ‘Tin Solider’ About?

Tin Solideris helmed by Brad Furman, who previously directed Johnny Depp inCity of Lies, Matthew McConaughey inThe Lincoln Lawyer, and Bryan Cranston inThe Infiltrator. This time, he worked from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Jess Fuerst, bringing to the screen a story about a troubled ex-disciple who joins forces with the government against a megalomaniac spiritual leader who has held a destructive reign for far too long, prompting a heart-pounding mission to put a stop to his activities. The synopsis for the film reads:

“Tin Soldier tells the story of The Bokushi (Foxx), who preaches to hundreds of veterans who have been drawn to the promise of protection and purpose under him. Surrounded by his devout military-trained followers, he has built an impenetrable fortress and amassed an arsenal of weapons. After several failed infiltration attempts, the government – in the form of military operative Emmanuel Ashburn (De Niro) – recruits Nash Cavanaugh (Eastwood), an ex-special forces asset, who was once a disciple of The Bokushi. Nash agrees to use his vulnerable past and insider knowledge of the enigmatic leader to finally get revenge on the man who took everything from him, including the love of his life.”

Jamie Foxx

Tin Soldieris produced by Keith Kjarval of Unified Pictures, Steven Chasman of Current Entertainment, and Brad Feinstein of Romulus Entertainment, while Walter Josten of Blue Rider served as executive producer. The film was expected to be a hot package at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, with a substantial bidding war predicted to take place, likely driven by the movie’s all-star cast, but there hadn’t been any further news until now.
