“It’s a lot of crazy, ridiculous action scenes for sure. It’s basically just about Hawaii and [Bautista and Momoa are] basically trying to figure out who murdered their father. I help them through that stuff. Yeah, it’s great.”

The Wrecking Crewwas made a reality after fans started calling for former Aquaman-now-Lobo star Jason Momoa to team-up with former guardian of the galaxy Dave Bautista. The idea quickly appealed to the latter, who took tosocial media back in 2021and said, “Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go… Me and Momoa in aLethal Weapontype buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.”
While the project did not landBullet TrainandThe Fall Guy’sDavid Leitch,they did get Ángel Manuel Soto on board, who is best known for the critically acclaimed dramaThe Farmand for helming DC’sBlue Beetlein 2023. The script has been written by Jonathan Tropper, who is best known for the likesBansheeand the Momoa-ledSeeon the small screen, as well as the Netflix movieThe Adam Projectstarring Ryan Reynolds.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, reports have claimed thatThe Wrecking Crewwill follow Momoa and Bautistaas “two half-brothers — one a loose cannon cop (Momoa) and the other a disciplined Navy SEAL (Bautista). After 20-odd years of bad blood, they must work together to unravel the conspiracy behind their father’s murder in Hawaii.” Momoa, meanwhile, cannot wait to star alongside Bautista, with the actor saying back in 2021 that he was amazed a simple tweetcould bring the action movie project to life.
“It’s amazing - you try to work your whole career to get an opportunity like this, and he just tweets something [to make it happen]. And then I got asked about it on Corden, and now our phones won’t stop ringing. So, it’s safe to say that one is happening. He did text me first, which is how respectful he is. I was like, ‘Hell yes. Tell me where to sign, I’m in.’ And then it turns out he just tweeted it right after getting my approval. And then it went viral. You’re like, ‘All right, well, it’s that easy. Let’s do it, buddy.'”
Jacob Batalon is expected to return forSpider-Man 4, and can currently be seen in a different action movie,Novocaine, starring The Boys’ Jack Quaid.
