Negan is back. Following the end ofThe Walking Deadlast year, the Walker universe continues to expand with new series centering on some of the most popular characters from his original show, including Negan and Maggie, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan.

The duo meets again inDead City, the first spinoff since the series finale. This project will be joined by two others, one starring Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon, and another that will mark the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick and Michonne, while fans also wait for the outcome ofFear the Walking Deadarriving later this year.

The Walking Dead

InDead City, Maggie must unexpectedly ally with Negan, despite their complicated past, in order to win back her son from isolated zombie-infested Manhattan. Although of course, the walkers are not the only danger they will face.

Cohan starred onThe Walking Deadfrom its second season to its final one, despite disappearing for a while in between before officially returning. Morgan, for his part, made his debut in season six and became the great villain in season seven, so his character would later star in one of the most interesting arcs in the show, going from enemy to becoming just another survivor.

SoDead Cityis much more than just a new adventure for Negan and Maggie, it is also a continuation of their story and a way of providing answers to the unfinished plots of both characters.

This is promised byJeffrey Dean Morganhimself in an interview withLet’s Talk Off Camera (via EW), also confessing that he had a particular conflict with his character’s story during season 11 ofThe Walking Deadthat he wants to resolve inDead City:

“You know, I don’t know that he would’ve gotten married again, and they had Negan get married at the end of The Walking Dead. We never saw the story of how he met this person and why he would’ve married her, which always kind of bummed me out, because I think he was so in love with his wife, Lucille, and it had made such a production out of the whole Lucille of it all. Having him show up with a wife without telling the story of why and how was always, like, a problem — an issue I had. But, you know, that’s what happens when you’re doing a show with 30 main characters. You’re not able to service each character as well as you may want to. And I think now with Dead City, we’ll get some answers.”

Dead Cityalso stars Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, a man who’s going after Negan; Željko Ivanek as The Croat, the main villain and who has kidnapped Maggie’s son; Mahina Napoleon as Ginny, a girl under Negan’s guard; Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso; Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano; Charlie Solis as The Bartender; Michael Anthony as Luther; Karina Ortiz as Amaia; Logan Kim as Hershel Rhee, Maggie and Glenn’s son.
