At just 25 years of age,Jennifer Lawrenceis easily one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, with two blockbuster franchises under her belt,The Hunger Gamesand theX-Menprequels. “I’d also like to direct a comedy. I have wanted to direct as long as I’ve wanted to act. I just don’t talk about it because I’d rather just do it. I’ve signed on to direct something calledProject Delirium- it’s based on this article about mental warfare in the ’60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong.”

The film is based on a 2012 New Yorker article entitledOperation Delirium, which chronicles secret U.S. Army experiments that took place during theCold War, between the years 1960 and 1969. These experiments were conducted byColonel James S. Ketchum, where he tried to come up with a mixture of chemicals that would incapacitate, but not kill, our enemies. He experimented on more than 5,000 soldiers, using a number of different chemicals such as LSD, BZ and even marijuana, which caused severe mental damage in many of the patients. A number of these patients have filed a class action lawsuit against the government for these experiments, whereColonel James S. Ketchumis expected to be the “star witness.”

Jennifer Lawrencecertainly won’t be the first actor to transition into directing, with a number of A-list stars such asGeorge ClooneyandAngelina Joliemoving behind the camera. At 25 years old, though, she may be one of the youngest to do so. The actress revealed that she has wanted to direct ever since she started acting as a teenager, but she didn’t think she was ready at the time.

“It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.”
