Kate Beckinsalesuffered for her art when filming her hit Prime Video action movieCanary Blackand showed off several war-wounds on her Instagram account around the time of the movie’s release in 2024. However, the actress has now launched legal proceedings against the producers of the film for negligence and exposing her to “dangerous and unsafe conditions” during filming.
As reported byPuck, Beckinsale is suing Anton Entertainment and producer John Zois for both negligence, “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” and battery in a lawsuit that was originally launched in May. According to the details of the claim:

“Ms. Beckinsale and her team repeatedly raised red flags regarding unsafe conditions on and off set to Defendants, including long, dangerous set days, often lasting fifteen hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel to help manage the high physical workload and recover from the exertion off set, and failure to adequately inform Ms. Beckinsale of what stunts she was expected to perform until often the moment she had to perform it.”
Kate Beckinsale Shares a Few of Her “47 Million” On-Set Horror Stories in Support of Blake Lively
Beckinsale is one of many actresses sharing personal stories of mistreatment on set in response to Lively’s legal complaint against Justin Baldoni.
TheUnderworldstaris certainly no stranger to action movie roles, but it seems that her concerns when filmingCanary Blackwere pushed aside, leading to the actress suffering a knee injury and other distress. The claim adds that after she attempted to raise her issues, the production team “continued to recklessly and intentionally forge ahead with unsafe filming conditions, forgoing safety to maintain profit margins, and in the process, put Ms. Beckinsale in harm’s way."

Kate Beckinsale’s Injuries From ‘Canary Black’ Were Many
In December 2022, Kate Beckinsale suffered a complex meniscus tear in her left knee while filming, which halted filming for several months while the actress underwent surgery. It was claimed that Beckinsale’s surgeon said that she should not be performing certain stunts on her return to the movie set, but this was reportedly ignored by the producer. According to Beckinsale, this led to “aggravation” of the knee after medical advice was continuously ignored.
Back in October 2024, Beckinsale sparked concern among her fanswhen she shared a series of injury photos on her social media account, including images of bad bruising to her arms and fingers, as well as many scrapes and scratches she had sustained, literally throwing herself into the role.

WhileCanary Blackwas a reasonable success and held the top position on the Prime Video chart for several days, its clear setting up of a potential future franchise may now seem pointless, as it looks like this canary is singing and probably would not want to return to the same kind of working environment she endured again anytime soon.
