Actor Kellan Lutz recently took to GalaxyCon where he gave us some answers as to why his character was so well-eggdowed.

If you have not been chronically onlineorTwilight-obsessedfor the past two decades, this probably sounds a little absurd to you. But, trust us, this has been brewing. People have been seriously wondering about the eggs. In the infamous “meet the Cullens” scene in the first film of the infamousTwilightfranchise, our brooding protagonist’s, Bella, new friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) explains who each of the Vampire students is to Bella and the audience as they enter the school cafeteria. This is the first time that Bella and Edward ever see each other.It is also when Emmett walks hand-in-hand with his lifelong partner, Rosalie, and his bag of hard-boiled eggs.
There are many puzzling parts of theTwilightfranchise that have become culturally significant memes, such as “Bella, where the hell have you been loca?” or simply pictures of the demon robot prop they used for Bella and Edward’s baby in the later films, but as far as the first film goes,Emmett’s bag of eggsmay just take the cake. “Why could this man possibly be carrying a bag of so many eggs?” fans would ask, “Vampires don’t even eat!” Admittedly, however, that was before. Okay, so the long-sought-after answer really boils down to one word: protein. According to Lutz,Emmett is a jock, so he figured that he would eat a lot of hard-boiled eggs. Of course, anyTwilightfan will understand that there are vampiric nuances and layers that go much deeper than meets the eye.
Lutz essentially explains that he and his fellow Cullens were, of course, not actually eating at lunch because vampires don’t eat human food. However,they were consciously trying to create a sense of normalcy for themselves among the human students. They were trying to blend in. As Lutz shares in the video,he personally asked director Catherine Hardwickeif he could hold the bag of eggs because he thought it was something that a vampire trying to appear like a normal jock teenager would do.
Don’t Put All Your Hard-Boiled Eggs in One Bag
When you hear Lutz explain it as he does, it starts to seem like a completely normal choice that makes complete sense. It makes you wonder why the bag of eggs was such a meme for such a long time and why no one was able to confidently and totally deduce that it was a guise for being human. The only explanation for why, at the end of the day, the eggs stumped us all for as long as they did is that there were simply so many eggs in that bag. Sure, it makes sense that an athlete could house a good number of hard-boiled eggs at lunch, and would.

He’s got at least 8 of these eggs. Then, he proceeds to sit at the table where he does not touch the bag of eggs at all. Nor does anyone he is sitting with eat anything. So, it is safe to say it is understandable why we were confused all these years.
However, one question remains… What did Emmett do with the eggs outside of lunchtime, because he obviously wasn’t eating them? Did he carry them around with him all day? Did he keep them in his locker? The other students must have noticed the smell… So, we refuse to let the bag of eggs being a sound character choice forTwilightmake it any less hilarious.
