Recently it was reported thatYellowstonewas facing a number of issues with its filming schedules due toKevin Costnerbeing said to be “difficult to work with” for agreeing only to film for one week during the second half of season 5 of the Paramount+ show. However, the actor’s attorney has now spoken out on behalf of the actor to debunk the claims as being “ridiculous.”

As reported byPuck’sMatthew Belloni (viaVulture), Costner’s legal representative Marty Singer said that the stories about the actor’s unwillingness to work on a show that he fought to make a success of were “an absolute lie.” He commented:

The Dutton Family in Yellowstone

“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie. It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second. As everyone who knows anything about Kevin and is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success."

While there are still plenty of rumors of unrest around theproduction ofYellowstone’sfifth season, it seems that one thing that is constantly being cited is that Coster’s time on the show looks to be coming to an end one way or the other. As the report continues:

“But more likely, this is a relationship that has run its course. [Yellowstone creator Taylor] Sheridan is certainly furious, I’m told; he can’t finish writing the 5B episodes until the Costner drama is resolved and his star is either in or out. McCarthy, Sheridan and lead producer David Glasser are said to have been planning for Costner’s eventual exit for a while. And Sheridan has considered killing off John Dutton before, but this time, as they say, it’s personal.”

Will Yellowstone’s Future Lie In Spin-Offs Rather Than the Flagship Series

Yellowstone has been a massive hit for Paramount+, delivering not only the series itself but several spin-off shows focusing on the Yellowstone Ranch or the land it is situated on. These included1883, starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott, followed by1923, featuring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford in the lead roles. With a second season of1923coming, along with two more potential limited series, it is clear that the centralYellowstoneseries is no longer the biggest concern in the franchise.

A recent report explained thatYellowstonewas likely to come to an end after the release of the second half of season 5, with a new “franchise extension” starring Matthew McConaughey believed to be in the works as a substitute. However, even that report was questionable, with a Paramount spokesperson noting:

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

How theYellowstonesaga will pan out going forward is unclear, but the one thing that is certain is that the franchise is not about to leave screens anytime soon.
