The cancelation ofResident Evilat Netflix didn’t come as a shock to many after the show’s middling viewer numbers and low review ratings, but starLance Reddickstill wanted to give a personal thanks to many involved in a personal message. The actor starred as Albert Wesker in the series, and while it did fit into the mythology of the game, something just didn’t sit right with audiences and the inevitable cancelation didn’t take too long to come.

Despite being roundly panned by fans of the game for being “boring”, Lance Reddick’s appearance as Albert Wesker was one of the best things about the show. In his personal message, Reddick took a backhanded swipe at “haters and trolls”, while thanking many of the cast and crew, as well as those who stuck with the show. He said:

Resident Evil Netflix Series (1)

“I wanted to do this video because I wanted to do some acknowledgements and do some thank yous. I want to give a thank you to our fearless leaders, our showrunners Mary Leigh Sutton and Andrew Dabb, my cast mates and co-stars Alba Lescu, sienna agudan, Paulo menies, Tamara smart, andline Rudolph, cana ducetti. To the executives at Contantine, and our executive producer Carla Scully, and to the executives at Netflix, who believed in the show, really loved it and once again who got what we were doing. We worked our asses, we had a great time and we made a hell of a show. Thank you. Onward and upward.”

Resident Evil Barely Bothered The Top of Netflix’s Chart

Although it was competing with Netflix behemothStranger Thingsand never got a chance to take the number 1 spot and had to settle for a number 2 debut. After just three weeks though it dropped out of the top ten, and its fate was pretty much sealed there and then, even thoughshowrunner Andrew Dabb subsequently shared a number of ideas that he expected to use in future seasons.

Resident Evilattempted something new with the franchise, delivering a storyline with multiple timelines that happened in the same universe as the game series but other than the inclusion of Albert Wesker there was very little else familiar to fans of the game franchise, and that massively impacted its chances of survival. While many adaptations of popular games have chosen to make changes,Resident Evilhas been screaming out for someone to make a good, faithful adaption of the early games but it just seems to be impossible to get that. EvenWelcome to Racoon City, which featured many familiar characters and settings from the first two games in the franchise, didn’t manage to please fans.

Resident Evilis still streaming its one season on Netflix for those who haven’t yet checked it out.
