For a little over a decade, viewers have followed the personal and professional life of LAPD detective Harry Bosch. Played byTitus Welliver,Boschpremiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 12, 2025, and went on to produce 68 episodes through seven seasons. When it ended in 2021, that wasn’t the last time fans of the police procedural saw the main character. Its first spin-off,Bosch: Legacy, which premiered in 2022 on Amazon Freevee, followed a retired Bosch who worked as a private investigator. Inits third and final season,viewers were introduced to Detective Renée Ballard, played byMaggie Q, in the last episode, which served as a minorintroduction toBosch: Legacy’s spin-off,Ballard. However, it will not be nostalgic, according to the leading actress.
During an interview withCollider, Maggie Q revealed that although the series is connected to Bosch, because it is a spin-off, it won’t lean on familiarity.

“We’re not looking to rehash the same things. There’s so much richness there. These are complex people in a complicated city. Crossovers don’t have to be about nostalgia. They can move the story forward. Bosch was isolated and Hollywood-centric.Ballard’s world is wider— she’s on the ocean, among people, and part of a team. It’s a different take on the same relentless spirit.”

‘Bosch: Legacy’ may be ending, but a new Bosch story is just around the corner.
In order to create its own identity,Ballardwon’t have a handful of fan-favorite characters making appearances unless it serves a bigger purpose, although Maggie Q would love towork with the talented actors again. In the new series, which premieres on Wednesday, July 9, main character Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) will lead the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division. She’ll deal with issues that Bosh didn’t have to face, opening up a completely new storyline and things that make Renée tick. She commented, “What makes her tick? I think that question marks make her tick. I think sadness makes her tick. I think that, also, her integrity, too, makes her tick.”

Who Is Included In the ‘Ballard’ Cast?
Alongside Maggie Q, the cast includes Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy and Hector Hugo.Titus Welliver will make appearances, but is not a main cast member. During an interview with Amazon, the actress said she had the best time working with Welliver. She said:
“When we revisit this relationship, this is somebody she has a respect for, but also someone she trusts with her secrets. But when she needs to get into the nitty-gritty and get stuff done, Bosch is a trusted source she can call. Personally, just working with Titus, I have the best time. I hope the fans of Bosch will see that and enjoy it.”

Other familiarBosch-universe faces, like Mimi Rogers (Honey Chandler, defense attorney), Madison Lintz (Maddie Bosch, Harry’s daughter and rookie police officer), and Stephen Chang (Mo Bassi, Harry’s tech expert), aren’t included in the cast or set to make appearances.
