Back in May, Disney dropped the first trailer for their upcomingMaleficentsequel starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, and today we have an all-new trailer to share with you guys. While the first trailer for Disney’sMaleficent: Mistress of Evilthat was released back in May was basically a quick glimpse at the mood of the new film, this new trailer showcases much more of the film’s plot.
And speaking of this sequel’s plot, from the looks of today’s extended trailer it appears this new adventure will center on Elle Fanning’s Princess Aurora getting engaged and her birth mother, Queen Ingrith (played byBatman ReturnsandWhat Lies BeneathstarMichelle Pfeiffer) trying to reclaim the girl from Maleficent’s care. As you might imagine, sets off Jolie’s titular witch and sends her on a rip-roaring rampage of revenge that seems to include some pretty epic-looking action. Plus, it appears that theSleeping Beautyvillain will be joining forces “with her own kind” lead by12 Years a SlaveandDoctor Strangeactor Chiwetel Ejiofor.
This new entry will see the return ofLara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of LifeandMr. & Mrs. SmithstarAngelina Jolieas Maleficent along withNeon DemonandTeen Spiritstar Elle Fanning as Aurora. As mentioned above, Michelle Pfeiffer will join them as Queen Ingrith, along with Harris Dickinson as Prince Phillip, Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass, Juno Temple as Thistlewit, Lesley Manville as Flittle, Sam Riley as Diaval, and Robert Lindsay as King John. Ed Skrein joins them along with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Warwick Davis, Jenn Murray, David Gyasi, John Carew, Freddie Wise, and Judith Shekoni as Shrike.
Marco PoloandPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesdirectorJoachim Rønningis taking over the helm of this new movie from originalMaleficentdirector Robert Stromberg. Rønning will direct this sequel from a screenplay written by Linda Woolverton (Alice Through the Looking Glass), Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Transparent), and Noah Harpster (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood). Their script is, of course, based on characters from not only Disney’s classic 1959 animated masterpieceSleeping Beautybut also it’s original source materialLa Belle au bois Dormantby Charles Perrault.
On top of headliningMaleficent: Mistress of Evil, Angelina Jolie also produces this newDisney moviealong with Joe Roth (The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle) and Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Geoff Zanelli will provide this sequel with its score, while Henry Braham will handle the film’s cinematography and Richard Francis-Bruce will edit the whole shebang into a finished film.
