The Mandalorianis skipping Season 4 and instead opting for a feature film withThe Mandalorian & Grogu. However, it now appears the story that began on the small screen may continue as a trilogy of movies thanks to a tease from starGiancarlo Esposito. The actor played Moff Gideon, the central villain ofThe Mandalorian’s first three seasons, and while the character met his end in Season 3, Esposito has been hinting a “new vision” for the franchise.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
Speaking Dragon Con viaCBR, Esposito spoke about plans to unite the variousStar Warsstreaming programs together, and that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a plan that extends beyondThe Mandalorian & Grogu. While Esposito does not make any reference to himself coming back, he seems to have an idea where this is all going. This could mean audiences might not have seen the end of Moff Gideon and possibly that either he or one of his clones survived. While fans already know that Dave Filoni is working on a film that will uniteThe Mandalorian,The Book of Boba Fett,Ahsoka, andSkeleton Crewtogether that will be released afterThe Mandalorian & Grogu, the idea thatThe Mandalorianera could expand again is a little unexpected. He said:
“As in the MCU, Disney will figure out how to join all of these characters into one really great movie or TV show. That’s my sense of where it will go. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with aMandalorianmovie. My sense is that it’s all going to converge at one point or another, and we’re going to have another set of… [a] trilogy, or more, of films.”

The Mandalorian & Groguis set for release on June 25, 2025, and seemingly will be the first part in a planned trilogy of films with Dave Filoni’s crossover film, either the second film or the third entry. That means anotherStarWarsfilm will be added to these soon. This trilogycould be a loose adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy written by Timothy Zahnin the 1990s, which was one of the foundational pieces of the originalStar WarsExtended Universe before Disney purchased the brand and rebranded itLegends.
