The idea ofJohn Wickstar Keanu Reeves joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the cogs turning in the minds of fans, with a clear frontrunner emerging for the actor to portray: the blazing avenger that isGhost Rider. The actor recently responded to the idea of adding his name to the MCU roster saying that it “would be an honor,” before adding that “there’s some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they’re doing something that no one’s really ever done. It’s special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it would be cool to be a part of that.”
There have been rumors floating around for some time that Reeves, who remains one of the biggest and most beloved names in Hollywood, will eventually join the MCU, with many believing that Ghost Rider is the perfect role for him.
Clearly, Marvel fans would love forKeanu Reevesto light up the franchise as the stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, with many hoping to one day see him transform into the flaming-skulled harbinger of hellfire.
Tthe last time audiences saw the Ghost Rider on the big screen was in 2011’s poorly receivedGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, starring Nicolas Cage as the titular antihero. On the small screen, a version of the Ghost Rider has already been introduced to the world of Marvel in the form of Roberto “Robbie” Reyes inAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and while Reyes was well-received, the show itself has since been removed from canon, leading many to feel that this could perfectly pave the way forJohnny Blaze to burst back onto the scene.
There have even been rumors that Johnny Blaze will be introduced in the upcoming sequelDoctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and while reports on such a detail were vague, they did claim that the flame-skulled vigilante will appear in a cameo before going on to feature in other MCU outings. WithDoctor Strange 2set to explore the multiverse, could audiences see a glimpse of Ghost Rider…
It was recently revealed courtesy of the bookThe Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universethat Marvel boss Kevin Feige was stopped from using the likes ofGhost Rider, DaredevilandThe Punisheron the big screen thanks to Marvel being “already deeply committed to their successful Avengers characters, and the impending Guardians of the Galaxy characters.”With rumors abound that these characters will soon enter the MCU fray, could the studio be persuaded to give the Ghost Rider role to Keanu Reeves?
Should Marvel already have plans forGhost Rider, Reeves has recently declared his desire to return to the comic book movie genre, though over on the DC side, with the actor saying he would love the opportunity toreprise the role of paranormal investigator John Constantine. “I love playing Constantine,” he said. “John Constantine. I’ve played a lot of Johns. How many Johns have I played? I don’t even know. I think it’s over ten. But anyway, I’d love to have the chance to play Constantine again.”
Keanu Reeves is plenty busy without the addition of the MCU, and is set to return to bothThe MatrixinThe Matrix Resurrectionson June 12, 2025, and thenJohn WickinJohn Wick: Chapter 4on July 07, 2025.
