This past week, we learned the big news thatTom Hollandis the newPeter ParkerinMarvel and Sony’sSpider-Manreboot, which will hit theaters in IMAX and 3D onJuly 28, 2017. We also learned thatJon Watts, director of this August’s thrillerCop Car, is directing. While that is all great, many fans are still wondering if this will be a complete resurrection of the character, or if this trilogy will have any ties to the past movies, either the trilogy directed bySam Raimior the two movies that came fromMarc Webb. Speaking withComing Soon, Marvel head honcho and producer of the reboot,Kevin Feigepromises that this will have no ties to anything that has come before it. Though, it will co-exist in a Sony Universe alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“We’re going to have it be its own thing but some of those Spider-Man films… I think Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies ever, so that’s a lot to live up to.”

Kevin Feigewas pressed on recent comments he made about the newSpider-Manfeaturing other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, withRobert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man long suspected to be making an appearance. The producer has no comment about that at the moment, going onto explain the situation as it currently stands.

“Right now, it’s all about producing the new stand-alone Spider-Man movie. That’s what Sony is focused on. That’s what we’re focused on, and whatever happened before that or after that, sort of remains to be seen, but it’s all about producing the best Spider-Man movie we can, certainly within the Sony Universe, next July.”

The newSpider-Manmovie is still in its infancy, with the script being written as we speak. Tom Holland will make his debut appearance as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe inCaptain America: Civil War, which is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. The actor is said to only have acameoin that sequel, and will only be on set for a week. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information comes in.
