Uatu the Watcher has been revealed in a first-look at Marvel’sWhat If…?series. Disney+ just launched earlier this week and fans are already looking forward to Marvel Studios' upcoming shows. Kevin Feige revealed over the summer that there is going to be a lot more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than ever before, thanks to these upcoming series. TheWhat If…?series is only one of a pretty decently sized handful of new entertainment preparing to hit the small screen.
In celebration of theDisney+launch, Marvel Studios released a sneak peek at their upcoming shows, includingWhat If…?In doing so, we now have our first official look at Uatu the Watcher, who will be voiced byWestworld’s Jeffrey Wright. The character is the narrator of the series, which will show some pretty bizarre storylines ripped right from the original comic books. For instance, Peggy Carter is going to be the one who gets injected with the Super Soldier Serum this time around, not Steve Rogers in one episode of the show.
The Watcher observes events from across the universe. Other Watchers first appeared inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2during Stan Lee’s cameo. While theWhat If…?series doesn’t debut until summer 2021, we have gotten to see some footage from the shows. We have seenPeggy Carter as Captain Britainand even a zombified version of Captain America. Like the comics, the show could end up taking MCU fans into some pretty dark territory. TheCaptain America zombiedoes not look like a nice kind of zombie in any way, shape, or form. However, one has to wonder if it will get as dark asSpider-Man: Far From Home’s Iron Man zombie scene.
It’s unclear how big of a role theThe Watcherwill have inWhat If…?, but it’s safe to assume he will only be the narrator of the series as all of these crazy stories take place. Marvel Studios is gearing up to make Phase 4 pretty epic in terms of the sheer amount of output they are cranking out. With that being said, one has to wonder if they might be biting off a bit more than the fans can handle. Regardless, MCU fans are pretty hyped for the new shows and especially for checking out the Watcher inWhat If…?
What If…?boasts a pretty impressive voice cast. Josh Brolin, Michael B. Jordan, Michael Douglas, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi, Stanley Tucci, Neal McDonough, Sean Gunn, Dominic Cooper, David Dastmalchian, Michael Rooker, Jeff Goldblum, and more are all lending their voices to the upcoming series. It’s going to take some pretty weird stories that fans may have thought of over the years and provide them with an official home.
