When news first broke thatGeorge ClooneyandSteven Soderberghwere developing anall-femalespin-off of theOcean’s Elevenfranchise, there was talk thatGeorge Clooneycould possible return in a cameo as Danny Ocean. The movie was long confirmed to be set in the same universe as the original trilogy, and it was later revealed thatSandra Bullockis actually playing the ex-con sister ofGeorge Clooney’s Danny Ocean. While it is believed thatGeorge Clooneywon’t put in a cameo for this movie, it seems that his co-starMatt Damonis planning on returning as Linus Caldwell.
Entertainment Tonightcaught up withMatt Damonat the premiere ofManchester-by-the-Sea, which he produced, where he revealed that he will have a brief part inOcean’s Eight. While he didn’t specify that he’s coming back as Linus Caldwell, since this movie is set in the same world as the previous trilogy, it seems likely that he’s reprising his former role. Here’s what the actor had to say about returning inOcean’s Eightbelow.
“I think I’m doing a little bit in the movie. I haven’t read it yet, but the cast is phenomenal and I’m excited to see what those women do with it. It’s going to be fun.”
Production began last month in New York City, with the first set photos surfacing ofSandra BullockandCate Blanchett. They are joined by a cast that includesAnne Hathaway,Mindy Kaling,Sarah Paulson,Awkwafina,Rihannaand Oscar nomineeHelena Bonham Carter. Warner Bros. has yet to confirm any story details but the plot reportedly centers onSandra Bullock’s character, who assembles a group of thieves who plan on stealing an expensive necklace from the Met Ball, while framing a gallery owner for the crime.
Cate Blanchettis reportedly playing the right-hand woman ofBullock’s character, similar toBrad Pitt’s Rusty in theOcean’s Eleventrilogy, but no details were given on any of the other characters quite yet.
