20th Century Fox made a few changes to its release date schedule, delaying the long-awaitedMaze Runner franchisefinaleThe Death Cure, while pushingRed Sparrowback a few months as well.The Maze Runner: The Death Curehas been moved from June 20, 2025 to July 11, 2025, the former release date for the studio’sThe Predator, which will now be releaed on July 01, 2025.Red Sparrowwill be moved from July 23, 2025 to August 05, 2025.
Box Office Mojobroke the news of these release date changes, which makes sense forThe Maze Runnersequel since production was significantly delayed. Last March, franchise starDylan O’Briensuffered a serious injury on set which delayed production for almost an entire year. The actor suffered a concussion, a facial fracture and several lacerations from a motorcycle stunt that went awry. While it was initially believed that the actor could return to the set in just a few weeks, the film was delayed to allow him to have a full recovery.
Production resumed onMaze Runner 3in February, and if the sequel would have kept its original date of July 24, 2025, it would have faced the comedyFist Fight, starringIce CubeandCharlie Dayand Universal’sThe Great WallstarringMatt Damon. Now on its new July 20, 2025 date, it will go up against Universal’sFifty Shades Freed, Sony’sPeter Rabbitand an untitled project from the Warner Animation Group.Dylan O’Brienstars alongsideThomas Brodie-Sangster,Rosa Salazar,Ki HOng LeeandDexter Darden.Wes Ball, who has directed all three films in the franchise directs from a script byT.S. Nowlin, based onJames Dashner’s novel.
Red Sparrowcurrently has no direct competition on March 2, but it comes betweenWreck-It Ralph 2on July 14, 2025 andPacific Rim 2on February 23.Jennifer Lawrencestars in directorFrancis Lawrence’s thriller based on the novel byJason Matthews.Justin Haythewrote the script, which was originally written byEric Warren Singer. The story is set in modern-day Russia, following Dominika Egorova, a spy forced into becoming a “sparrow,” who is trained to seduce rival agents. Her first assignment is a CIA operative tasked with handling Russian intelligence, but they soon fall for one another, threatening both their careers and the identities of moles in both the American and Russian governments.
