While there are few guarantees in Hollywood,Captain America: Brave New Worldis proving that Marvel movies releasing on Disney+ will always pull in a Hulk-sized audience. Sincethe release of Disney’s live-actionLilo & Stitchremake, the little alien has been dominating Disney+ with his original animated outing and its sequels/spinoffs. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Director Reveals the Harsh Truth Behind That Disappointing Post-Credits Scene
MCU fans were left underwhelmed with the ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ post-credits scene.
For those who have been living on a space station with Nick Fury for several years, Anthony Mackie was promoted to the role of Captain America in the TV series,The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, after initially rejecting the role bestowed upon him by Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers inAvengers: Endgame. His first movie pitted him against the long-delayed return of Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader, andHarrison Ford’s Red Hulk, who took an appropriately huge portion of the movie’s marketing time. Now, audiences are able to stream the movie as part of their Disney+ subscription, which means it was always guaranteed a chart-topping debut.

Was ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ a Misfire for the MCU?
Despite the film being seen as a failure by some,Brave New Worldwas not the kind of catastrophic disaster at the box officeThe Marvelswas unfairly left with in 2023. The film managed to surpass the box office of Evans’ debut as Captain America from back in 2011, and ended its run on $415 million. While the film reportedly needed $425 million to hit a break-even point, once adding in an extensive profit from merchandising and VOD/physical media sales, this year’s first MCU release was not a financial flop.
When it comes to the reviews of the movie, the story is a little more mixed.Brave New World’s Tomatometer stands on a “rotten” 47% - one of the lowest ratings of the entire franchise – but audiences put it on par withThe Marvelsat 78% (the Brie Larson-ledCaptain Marvelsequel scored 62% and 79% from critics and audiences, respectively).

The biggest issues withBrave New Worldseemed to come from many people expecting it to be something other than a Marvel movie. Audiences who went in to see the usual big screen Saturday morning cartoon type of fare that the MCU provides were mostly satisfied with what they saw. Those looking for something more left disappointed. However, the Marvel Studios bandwagon has come to far to crumble on the back of some middling performances, and small blips likeBrave New Worldwill all be forgotten whenDoomsdayandSecret WarschallengeEndgamefor place on the list of highest-grossing movies of all time.
