During an interview withDecider(conducted prior to the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike), starMichael Cera(who is known for his roles in movies likeSuperbad,Juno, andNick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), revealed that he’s hoping to get back into the director’s chair with his first feature length project. While chatting with the outlet, theScott Pilgrim vs. the Worldstar declared his “ambitions to direct.”

In the past, Cera has directed three shorts in 2013 ( B****,Failure, andBrazzaville Teen-Ager). TheBarbieactor also led the 2007 CBS mockumentaryClark and Michael, back in the early days of his career in the entertainment industry.

TheYouth in Revoltstar initially spoke about returning to his independent comedy roots starting withDustin Guy Defa’s upcoming comedy dramaThe Adults.Cera will also appear in A24’sDream Scenario, a Nicolas Cage led horror comedy directed by Kristoffer Borgli in addition to returning to theScott Pilgrimuniverse with the animated seriesScott Pilgrim The Anime.

While chatting about the latter of the three, Cera told the outlet, “It’s strange and very fun.Scott Pilgrimhas such a specific energy. The whole project, the world ofScott Pilgrim, is very energetic and really funny.”

TheYear Onestar went on to complimentScott Pilgrimcreator Bryan Lee O’Malley’s script for the new seriessaying, “Every time I’ve recorded it, I have to send Brian an email saying, ‘I love this so much. I’m so excited about it.”

Still, Cera noted that he doesn’t feel overwhelmed by all his recent projects (partially due to the fact that he worked onThe Adultsback in 2021). TheSausage Partyactor said, “The way things shape up always leaves a lot of time.”

Later on, Cera revealed that one thing he’s still looking forward to is getting back behind the camera, with a feature length film. He continued:

“I have ambitions to direct. You have to forfeit a lot of control as an actor, whatever it is, a play or a movie. You’re not really in control broadly of how the whole thing is coming across, so you have to not worry about that and just focus on what you’re doing. Focus on your own work and just stay in your lane.”

Cera went on to tell the outlet that he is currently in the process of developing a new project that he plans to direct and at the moment, he is working on getting it financed. While he didn’t offer too many details, the actor did say, “It’s like a family story. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s mysterious.”

The Adultswill release in select theaters in the US on August 18th, whileDream Scenariowill hit theaters on November 10th following its official debut at Toronto International Film Festival as the opening film.
