A reunion betweenDanny DeVitoandArnold Schwarzeneggeron Oscars night, with an unexpected twist that broughtMichael Keatoninto their presenting stint, led to one of the best moments of the 2024 ceremony. Arriving on stage to a standing ovation, the pair were expected to share a few words about their previous comical endeavors before presenting the Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing, with DeVito opening by saying, “Arnold and I are presenting together for very obvious reasons.”

However, things pivoted in an unexpected direction when Schwarzenegger replied:
We both tried to kill Batman.
Of course, there was a certain actor in the audience who had just recently returned to the role of the DC superhero he first brought to the big screen back in 1989 in Michael Keaton. This presented the opportunity for Schwarzenegger and DeVito to recall how their respectiveBatman villains, Mr. Freeze and the Penguin were defeated by the Dark Knight. After Arnie said that Freeze was undone by his “one weakness,” which was love and not heat as DeVito suggested, theBatman Returnsstar offered up his own quip in relation to his own character’s demise.
He threw me out a window.
Angry Arnie responded by say Batman was just a real “son of a bitch,”, before DeVito pointed out that their former adversary was actually in the audience and had a “lot of nerve showing his face.” At this point, the camera cut to Keaton, sitting in the audience with a completely sombre expression on his face. After being goaded by the pair a little more, Keaton effortlessly slipped into his Bruce Wayne persona, smirking and giving them a “come on then” gesture.
Fans Want Schwarzenegger and DeVito to Work Together Again
Michael Keaton reprised his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman inThe Flashin 2023, and while there wereoriginally some big plans for the character, they seem to have now fallen by the wayside in the wake of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s emerging new DCU timeline.
However, plans for Schwarzenegger and DeVito to return to screens as theirTwinscharacters Julius and Vincent, respectively, hit a major stumbling block early in 2022 following the death of Ivan Reitman.
