Illuminationhas long since figured out the perfect blend of charm and comedy with stellar animation in many of their biggest animated hits, particularlyThe Super Mario Bros. Moviewhich remains the highest grossing movie of the year so far. Their next upcoming comedic adventure featureMigrationis already showing much of the same promise, and the third trailer for the movie continues to tease the upcoming movie that promises to be a little bit quackers
Migrationis the latest vibrant adventure comedy from Illumination helmed by French director Benjamin Renner, who was brought aboard to harness his talent with animation and comic book art into a completely computer-animated film complete with fully visualized rendered backgrounds, rather than photorealism seen in other animated films. He also took inspiration from particularly expressive animals in the wild in order to develop the film’s eccentric characters. The project is written by Mike White, who is also working onthe next installment in theDespicable Meanimated franchise.

Chris Meledandri, who has worked on the majority of Illumination’s films over the years, is back once more as producer. The premise of the film centers on a charming family of Mallard ducks who feel like they’re missing out on the world around their pond, and decide to embark on their own migration from New England all the way to Jamaica. Starring in the film are Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Elizabeth Banks (Brightburn), Awkwafina (The Little Mermaid), Keegan Michael-Key (The Super Mario Bros. Movie), David Mitchell (Greed), Carol Kane (The Dead Don’t Die), Danny DeVito (Dumbo), and young newcomers Caspar Jennings and Tresi Gazal.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Sets New Record as Biggest Video Game Movie in History
Migrationwill potentially round off Illumination’s year with another hit. Having seenThe Super Mario Bros. Moviebreak records earlier this year, this latest offering may not have a big franchise behind it, but it does possess all of the factors that make the studio’s work so popular.
The synopsis for the movie reads:
“The Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids—teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen—the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to embark on a family trip, via New York City, to tropical Jamaica.
As the Mallards make their way South for the winter, their well-laid plans quickly go awry. The experience will inspire them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends and accomplish more than they ever thought possible, while teaching them more about each other—and themselves—than they ever imagined.”

Migrationflies in theaters everywhere just in time for Christmas on December 22.
