Last week,Foxdebuted a newtrailerforThe X-Filesduring the new episode ofGotham, and now it seems that a pattern may be emerging. During tonight’s episode ofGotham, the network debuted another trailer with brand new footage fromThe X-Files, which teases some of the “monsters” that Mulder (Gillian Anderson) and Scully (David Duchovny) will be investigating throughout this six-episode season. We’ll have to wait and see if the next episode ofGothamyields another batch of new X-Files footage.
Sadly, this footage doesn’t give us our first look atWilliam B. Davis' The Cigarette Smoking Man, who was teased in anew posterreleased earlier this month. His appearance inThe X-Filesis somewhat surprising, since he appeared to be killed off during the 2002 two-part series finale,The Truth, and he didn’t return for the 2008 feature filmThe X-Files: I Want to Believe. The actor appeared in 37 episodes ofThe X-Filesbetween 1993 and 2002, and in the original series, The Cigarette Smoking Man wasMulder’s arch nemesis. The character’s real name, C.G.B. Spender, wasn’t revealed untilThe X-Files Season 6.
There are a number of new characters who are teased in this footage, such as a man who appears to have a mangled face, a young girl and boy, one of whom apparently has the power to shatter glass with her mind and another mysterious girl. How exactly they fit into this six-episode event series remains to be seen, but hopefully we’ll learn more about these characters as we get closer to the January premiere date. It’s clear that Mulder and Scully will certainly have their hands full with unexplained phenomena when they come back.
The X-Files Revival is set thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter ofThe X-Filesis a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producerChris Carter, with starsDavid DuchovnyandGillian Andersonre-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI AgentsFox MulderandDana Scully.Mitch Pileggialso returns as FBI Asst. Dir. Walter Skinner, Mulder and Scully’s boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
