USA’s hit seriesMr. Robotis coming to an end with the upcoming fourth season. The 12 episode final season is expected to begin filming late this year for a 2019 premiere date, which has not been announced yet. Season 4 was originally only going to have 8 episodes and creator Sam Esmail was thinking about making a fifth season. Instead, episodes were added to the fourth season and the decision was made to end the show. Esmail states that he never intended forMr. Robotto go on for as long as it has.
Sam Esmail first came up with the idea forMr. Robotas a feature-length movie. It was only when he really started to write the story that he discovered that it would be better suited for a television series. Esmail’s original first story was told in the first season of the hit USA series. In a statement, Esmail thanked the fans for their support. He had this to say.
The end ofMr. Robotshouldn’t really come as a shock for fans of the series. At the conclusion of Season 3, Sam Esmail revealed that he had the end in sight, noting that he couldn’t see the show continuing past five seasons. At that time, Esmail was toying with making two more short seasons, possibly only 5 episodes each to end the story. Esmail also said that he never wanted to feel like they were “treading water” in the writer’s room, so the show will end with Season 4.
WhileMr. Robotisn’t a ratings juggernaut, it is praised by critics and its hardcore fan base. Stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater have won awards for their work on the show, which has further gone to raise the profile of the hit series. Fans may be disappointed to learn thatMr. Robotis ending, but Sam Esmail is excited to finally deliver the end of the show, which will more than likely end up with a bunch of new award nominations when the time comes.
