Are the mythical dire wolves fromGame of Thronesa living reality? Perhaps. The killing of a mysterious wolflike creature has researchers stumped on what exactly it is, leading to guesses of the prehistoricdire wolf, to Bigfoot, and even the mythical dogman. There’s even the possibility that it could be a dog/wolf hybrid, but that seems unlikely, according to researchers. DNA samples have been sent to a lab via Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Researchers won’t know exactly what this creature is until the DNA results come back.
First of all, it’s legal in Montana to shoot wolves that get dangerously close to livestock, which is how this incident occurred. Now, there’s a picture of the unidentified creature on the tailgate of a truck with a bullet hole in it. Researchers say that the canine teeth are too short for it to be a wolf. Additionally, the ears were much larger and the paws were much smaller with claws that were way too long to be those of a wolf. Bruce Auchly, information manager for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks had this to say.
“We have no idea what this is and we won’t know until we get theDNA testsback.”
According to the Washington Post, many people have come out of the woodwork to play detective, which has led to conspiracy theories. Some people actually believe that it could beBigfoot, even though that makes absolutely zero sense, especially when looking at the tiny paws of this particular creature. Others believe that it’s the mythical dogman, who are described as “cryptozoological beings that are large and sometimes described as looking like upright canids.” Sightings of the dogman are often reportedly buried by government officials or the real-life “Men in Black.”
While the wolves and dogs can breed, the wolflike creature doesn’t seem to be what the mystery animal is either. Although, they are known to get particularly aggressive once they hit puberty, it has not been confirmed if the creature was aggressive. While the dire wolf sounds like it would fit in with the aforementioned conspiracy theories, it’s really not that far-fetched. Thepopular creaturesfrom HBO’s hitGame of Thronesseries were real at one time. Fossils have been found all over North America, most notably in the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.
So it might not actually be a real dire wolf, but a breeder in southern Oregon has been trying create a new type of dog called the American Alsatian, which would look an awful lot like the prehistoric dire wolf fromGame of Thrones. The breeder has been trying to create the hybrid for nearly 30 years now, so it is possible that thewolflike creaturefound in Montana is a sort of dire wolf 2.0. We’ll just have to wait until the DNA results come back, but it seems that the two best bets are that it’s new dire wolf or a dog/wolf hybrid or maybe even one of the legendary Chupacabras from South America, who have been spotted as far north as Maine in North America. you may read more about the mysterious wolflike creature from The Washington Post.
