John Wick: Chapter 4has seemingly proven that there is still plenty of life in the franchise, and it looks like we are going to find out exactly how much further potential it has with several new movies being teased byJohn Wick 4producer Erica Lee. The franchise has recorded a huge opening box office and its highest review ratings with the fourth installment this past weekend, and now it looks like there is the possibility of a more sequels and an as-yet-unannounced spin-off movie.
TheJohn Wickfranchise has already encompassed four movies, the upcoming spin-offBallerinaand theevent TV seriesThe Continental. While it could be possible for an action franchise to start flagging by its fourth movie – ask the likes of John McClane and John Rambo – this John has continued to build on its previous success and is apparently not showing any signs of slowing yet. Lee toldCollider:
“There is another film that we’re developing that I think we’ll be announcing in the next, say, month or two. Then, I’m hopeful there’s a Ballerina 2, and John Wick 5, and lots of other things. But we’re developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and [the] Wick universe is my utmost priority.”
The even mention of “brand management” suggests that the John Wick name is being heavily leaned into by Lionsgate, and remembering that they have had a hand in such well-wrung franchises asSawandThe Expendables, then we could be seeing theJohn Wickfranchise continue until it really hurts.

The John Wick Franchise Has Plenty of Avenues to Explore.
John Wickwas a surprise hit when it was originally released and delivered a whole new franchise to the feet of Keanu Reeves. After building up popularity over two subsequent sequels, the release ofJohn Wick: Chapter 4has seen the saga reach a new peak, and the spin-off movieBallerinaand TV eventThe Continentalwill ride that wave of popularity perfectly in the next year.
When it comes to the future of the franchise, there is obviously talk of a fifth movie coming through again, but the story so far has thrown up plenty of other characters who could be explored in their own spin-offs. Erica Lee has already hinted at two characters she would like to see get their own stories told, and that leaves the question of whether one of these could be the focus of the new project. She previously said:
“Yeah, I think the world of the Bowery King and the Bowery is something that we’re really interested in exploring more of. He sort of runs the underground, and it’s such an interesting world. How does he get the guns and the boats? He shows up everywhere. He’s the leader; he has homeless running the streets and information through pigeons. He’s low-tech and analog in a digital world, and he knows everyone and gets everywhere. I think that is something that’s really interesting to explore.”
John Wick: Chapter 4is in theaters now, whileBallerinawill release early 2023 andThe Continentalwill debut on Peacock in September 2023.
