Like its predecessor, it was also considered a box office failure thanks to its limited release, butgained traction on home video, and over the years the two filmshave earned a cult following, with many die-hard fans clamoring for a sequel.
In an interview withScreenRantto promote his latest film,The Bikeriders, Norman Reedus discussedwhereThe Boondock Saints 3will pick up in the story, which saw the MacManus brothers behind bars at the end ofAll Saints Day. You can’t keep the Irish twins down though, as according to Reedus, the filmwill open with an action-packed prison breakwhich he describes as “crazy.” Check out his comments below.

WhileThe Boondock Saints 3wasfirst announced in 2021with original director Troy Duffy expected to return, the project underwenta number of changes in the last three years, and has since ended up in the hands of Thunder Road,the production company behind theJohn Wickfranchise.They’lljoin rights-holders Dragonfly Films in producing the new entry, which is being called an “expansion” of the series. Duffy will remain involved as a producer.
What Will The Boondock Saints 3 Be About?
While plot details forThe Boondock Saints 3are under wraps for now as the movie currently appearsto still be in the early stages of script development, the new film is said to focus on the“indoctrination of new ‘Saints.’”Whether they will aid in the aforementioned prison break remains to be seen, but what is confirmed is that both Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery willreturn to reprise their roles of Murphy and Connor MacManus respectively.
As for who else could pop up in the story? There is a chancefans could see Willem Dafoe returnas FBI Special Agent Paul Smecker, who was revealed to still be alive at the end ofAll Saints Day, and helping the MacManus twins all along.Julie Benz could also pop upas FBI Special Agent Eunice Bloom, but as of now, that is just speculation. For the time being,Reedus and Flanery are the only confirmed cast membersto return to the franchise at this point.
