Actress Emily Rudd, who willstar as Nami in the Netflix series, has revealed that the adaptation will retain the heart alongside the wacky adventures. “I think there have been crazier shows done. And yes, it’s a little bit silly and a little bit wacky,” she said in an interview conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. “But again, I think something that we have really focused on is just the heart of the show. It’s a really beautiful story. And I think it’s the adventure, it’s the play, but it’s also like real stories, real people. And so, finding the grounded version of it while still maintaining the spirit of the original was something that we tried to find the balance of.”

One Piece, the most popular manga in history, is preparing to make the leap to the live-action format thanks to Netflix, and Luffy and his crew will land on the streaming platform sooner than expected. The first official trailer for the show landed during the TUDUM event, revealing that the premiere of the series is confirmed for August 31. Announced in 2020, the project has been in development for years, working hand in hand with the creator of the original story, Eiichiro Oda, who has accompanied each step and supervised the story so that it remains faithful to the source material. In fact, recently Oda confirmed to the fansthat the series would not see the light unless he felt everything looked perfect, so it seems the show is more than ready to hit the screen.

His journey takes him to a fantastical world of exotic islands and vast oceans in search of the most legendary treasure of all time, known asOne Piece, to become the new Pirate King.
