Who isPeter Dinklageplaying inAvengers: Infinity War? We don’t know yet. But the directors promise he’ll be recognizable. So that kind of ends any speculation about the Black Order, right?
Infinity Waris the long-awaited culmination of dozens of Marvel heroes. It is an unprecedented team-up movie, bringing together characters from practically every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It won’t only include the main heroes like Iron Man and Star Lord, but will also include the lesser-known characters such as Wong fromDoctor Strangeand Happy Hogan from theIron Mantrilogy.
Considering the number of characters from other MCU movies that are enteringInfinity War, no one expected to see many new characters added into the movie. There are already so many characters in theInfinity War, many of whom are played by rather expensive actors, it would seem impossible that Marvel could afford adding anyone else. This is what made the mysterious inclusion ofGame of Thronesstar Peter Dinklage such a head-scratcher.
Rumors of Peter Dinklage becoming part of theInfinity Warcast arose over one year ago, when there was supposedly talk that the Emmy-winning actor was on the movie’s set. Over the past year, no evidence arose confirming, or even hinting, whether or not Dinklage was part of the movie’s production. However, this all changed when the official poster forInfinity Warwas released a month back, which included Dinklage’s name on the bottom of the credits block. At last, we know Dinklage has some part to play in the nextAvengersmovie, but there is still no revelation on who he will be playing.
During the press tour forAvengers: Infinity War, the movie’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo finally broke their silence on Dinklage’s inclusion. While they still refuse to reveal who theGame of Thronesstar will be portraying in the movie, they did at least give us a clue as towhat we can expect from him. The directors say this.
“It may take you a beat or two, but you’ll certainly recognize him…That’s all we can say.”
Since Dinklage’s name first appeared on theInfinity Warposter, fans have been theorizing that Dinklage will bevoicing one of the members of Thanos’s Black Order. The adopted henchmen of the Mad Titan have been rumored to have well known voice actors, so many Marvel fans put two and two together.
However, the insight given by the movie’s directors may hint otherwise. While they could mean that his voice will be recognizable rather than Dinklage himself, it is now more than likely that we willactually see Dinklage on screenrather than just hear him talking from a large alien’s mouth. There is certainly a lot we have not yet seen ofInfinity Warin the promotions, including parts with The Collector, a majority of Thor’s story arc, and practically everything including Hawkeye. It is very possible that at some point during these parts of the movie, Peter Dinklage will make his appearance, possibly setting up a larger role for the actor in next year’sAvengers 4.
There are certainly a lot of secrets aboutInfinity Warthat we have yet to see, and Peter Dinklage’s role is certainly one of them. While we arehopeful we will see himappear on screen, it is also very possible that the Russo brothers were simply trying to subvert the predictions about Dinklage’s role during their interview with JOE.ie. Regardless of what the directors meant in the interview, we are sure to figure out the truth in two weeks whenAvengers: Infinity Warhits theaters.
