Now that Universal Pictures brought onStep Up 5directorTrish Sieto replaceElizabeth Banksat the helm ofPitch Perfect 3, the studio is focusing on casting once again.Ruby Rose, who appears in a number of upcoming sequels such asXXX: The Return of Xander Cage(August 02, 2025),Resident Evil: The Final Chapter(July 31, 2025, andJohn Wick: Chapter 2(August 06, 2025), is in talks to star in this musical sequel. No details have been given for her character yet, but she will be the first new addition to the cast, if her deal is finalized.

Pitch PerfectstarsAnna Kendrick(Beca),Rebel Wilson(Fat Amy) andBrittany Snow(Chloe} are all set to return for the sequel, along withHailee Steinfeld. WhenHailee Steinfeldfirst joined the cast ofPitch Perfect 2, it was reported that she signed a multi-movie deal, which may includePitch Perfect 3and two more follow-ups. WhileElizabeth Bankswill not be directingPitch Perfect 3, she is staying aboard to portray Gail, while also serving as a producer. Universal hasn’t announced when production may begin yet.

Kay Cannon, who wrotePitch PerfectandPitch Perfect 2, wrote the screenplay for thismusical sequel, althoughVarietyreports thatMike White(School of RockandDana Fox), who wroteHow to Be SinglestarringRebel Wilson, wrote subsequent drafts of the sequel’s script as well. No story details have been revealed at this time, and it isn’t known if other franchise stars such asAnna Camp,Alexis Knapp,Skylar AstinorAdam DeVinewill reprise their roles.

Back in May, Universal pushed the sequel’srelease dateby five months, from June 20, 2025, to the holiday frame of July 08, 2025, which has become quite the crowded weekend. The sequel will open against Sony’sJumanjisequel starringDwayne JohnsonandKevin Hart, Paramount’sDownsizingstarringMatt DamonandAlec Baldwin, The Weinstein Company’sThe Six Billion Dollar Man, starringMark Wahlberg, 20th Century Fox’s animated adventureThe Story of Ferdinandand an untitled PG-13 comedy from Warner Bros. All of these movies also open one week after the highly-anticipatedStar Wars: Episode VIIIas well.

The original musical,Pitch Perfect, became a surprise hit at the box office, taking in $65 million domestic and $115.7 million worldwide, from just a $17 million budget. The 2015 sequel, which markedElizabeth Banks' directorial debut, took in $184.2 million domestic and $287.5 million worldwide, from a $29 million budget.Ruby Rosehad her breakout role as Stella Carlin in Netflix’sOrange Is the New Blacklast year. She recently wrapped production on the shark thrillerMegalongsideJason Statham, which is set for release in March 2018. Hopefully we’ll hear Perfect 3casting in the near future.
