After some rumor and speculation, it has now been confirmed that Gyllenhaal will reunite withThe CovenantdirectorGuy RitchieforRoad House 2, with Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F) writing the script.
As per a report by Deadline, plot details forRoad House 2are currently being kept under wraps, with Ritchie taking over the reins for the action franchise from the first outing’sDoug Liman following the latter’s frustration with Amazonskipping theaters and debuting the movie on their streaming platform Prime Video. It is not yet known whether the sequel will do the same or hit the big screen.

Reimagining the 1989 Patrick Swayze cult classic for the modern day,Road Housefollows Gyllenhaal as ex-UFC fighter Dalton, who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse…only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Despite mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike (Road Housenow stands at a “fresh” rating of 60% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside 52% from audiences on the Popcornmeter), the action remake was a huge hit for Amazon and Prime Video when it landed on the streamer back in March last year. The action movie attracted a record-breaking 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends which, according to the studio, making Road House the “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.”

Road House 2finds Guy Ritchie, who most recently helmed theIndiana Jones-esqueFountain of Youthfor Apple TV+ and theTom Hardy-led seriesMobLandfor Paramount+, reuniting with Jake Gyllenhaal. The pair previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed action war outingGuy Ritchie’s The Covenant, which saw the actor take the lead as US Army Sergeant John Kinley, who finds himself heading back into the Afghan warzone to rescue his former interpreter and the man who saved his life, Ahmed, played by Dar Salim.
