Ryan Goslingis widely regarded as one of thebest actors of his generation. A versatile talent, he’s starred in everything from musicals to romantic comedies, action films, and more. Whenever he’s onscreen, audiences trust they’ll be treated to top-notch acting and a storyline worth watching. He’s had a lot of hits, but one of Gosling’s most popular movies is 2016’sLa La Landwith Emma Stone. The film, which follows a struggling jazz pianist and an aspiring actor who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles, wasone of the most acclaimed productionsreleased that year. Although critics and fans saw the two perform flawlessly, Gosling has since pointed out one thing he wishes he’d done differently.
As reported by CinemaBlend, out ofall the dance sequencesinLa La Land, there’s one that sticks out like a sore thumb for Gosling, and it just happens to be part of the film’s official poster. In this specific scene, Mia (Stone) and Sebastian (Gosling) are dancing on an overlook in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, a striking number taking place against the city’s skyline under a single lit streetlamp. The average audience member is too swept up in the romance to go looking for a mistake, but according to Gosling, his hand was weirdly positioned.

8 Big Movie Offers Ryan Gosling Turned Down
Ryan Gosling has done it all, from comedy and drama to musicals and science fiction. But there are roles that the actor has declined.
There’s a moment that haunts me, where we’re dancing, Emma and I, and we – I didn’t know this would become the poster – but I thought we were supposed to have our hands up. And I thought it’d be cool to put my hand like that [flips his hand to a 90 degree angle]. Even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool. I was sure that that [straight hand] was cooler than that [90 degree angle hamburger hand].

For anyone who isn’t a choreographer, it looks fine, but it’s understandable that Gosling would call it haunting, especially since Stone’s arms are positioned perfectly. Since a snapshot of the scene became the poster, that specific image was everywhere, and Gosling couldn’t escape it. “Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time, you know what would have been cooler than this [poster], that [perfect straight hand],” he added. “It just killed the energy that way.” It still didn’t stopLa La Landfrom becomingthe perfect love story for its time, snagging 14 nominations at the 89th Academy Awards.
