Ryan Reynolds’s quick wit has often gifted him plenty of laughs, but the alleged mocking ofIt Ends With UsdirectorJustin BaldoniinDeadpool & Wolverinehas taken an unexpected turn. According to a report fromTheWrap, Reynolds has seemingly admitted that he did indeed use the character “Nicepool” to take a swipe at Baldoni following the issues he caused Blake Lively when they worked together. Now, Reynolds has started a motion to dismiss the lawsuit against him, claiming that there is nothing to Baldoni’s case other than “hurt feelings.”

In the filing made to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Reynolds’ lawyers claimed that Baldoni’s “thin-skinned outrage over a movie character, the satirical ‘woke’ Nicepool, does not even pretend to be tied to any actual legal claims.”

Ryan Reynolds' Sly ‘SNL50’ Joke About the ‘It Ends With Us’ Lawsuit Was All His Idea

The joke has been met with mixed response on social media as the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal fight continues to heat up.

As shared by The Wrap, the motion goes on to state that “it falls into the [First Amended Complaint]’s general allegation of ‘hurt feelings,’ which in reality is nothing more than a desperate effort to advance the same curated ‘bully’ image that the Wayfarer Parties created and disseminated in the retaliation campaign they launched against Ms. Lively in August of 2024.”

The motion also goes on to say that Baldoni’s case shows no actual statement that proves defamation against him, “because no such defamatory statement exists.”

Ryan Reynolds Claims to be Supportive of His Wife, Nothing More

The legal case between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoniwas never going to be simple. From the beginning, countering stories and accounts of exchanges between the pair saw both sides building support from their respective fans. However, asmore lawsuits came into being, against newspapersand Reynolds, it became clear that the whole thing was going to get messier.

In Reynolds' dismissal motion, it is repeated several times that Baldoni and his team initially launched “a retaliatory ‘social manipulation’ campaign to ‘destroy’ and ‘bury’ her because she privately spoke up about sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct” during the making ofIt Ends With Us. In the document, it is noted that Reynolds, in his actions, was “being a supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational, and financial devastation Ms. Lively has suffered.”

It went on to state, “Mr. Reynolds is a defendant in this action for one reason, and one reason only: because billionaire Plaintiff Steve Sarowitz [and Wayfarer co-founder] promised to spend up to $100 million to ‘ruin’ Ms. Lively and Mr. Reynolds.”

Exactly how this whole thing ends is still something that is hard to predict, but it was recently suggested by Baldoni’s own lawyer that the whole thing may not even make it to court if the two parties come to a settlement arrangement that they are both agreed on. It seems increasingly unlikely that such a settlement is about to be made, but it would certainly save several more months of the inevitable fallout that is going to continue seeping out of this case like toxic waste in a superhero origin story movie.
