CBS has cancelledS.W.A.T.again, and star / executive producerShemar Moore, who plays Sgt. Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is already asking if Netflix would like to pick the show up for a ninth season. The show premiered in 2017 and is based on the 1975 series and 2003 movie.
The networkcancelled the show in 2023after six seasons, only toreverse its decisiondays later after Moore pleaded his case for another season. The 13-episode seventh season was supposed to be the last, but CBSrenewed it for an eighth season. But now it looks likeS.W.A.T.‘stime on the network has come to an end.

‘S.W.A.T.’ has been saved from the chopping block twice by CBS in the last two years, but now it seems to have run out of get out of jail free cards.
And Moore is once again not going down without a fight. He took to Instagram and stated his case for Netflix to take over the series. The previous seven seasons have done well for the streaming giant. Moore said:
“Hey Netflix, how you doing? Let me just remind you that in a very short period of time, once upon a time ago …it only took us about two weeks to go from number 15 … to number one. And then we stayed in your top 10, top 15 for about six months, nine months, maybe a year. So Netflix, if you’re interested in a show that is on autopilot that the world is watching, we’d love to come play.”
Moore also mentioned other networks that could be interested in taking onS.W.A.T., including ABC, NBC, and FOX. The show currently airs on Friday nights at 10 pm ET on CBS, while also available on Paramount+.
S.W.A.T.has been a relatively popular show for the network, with around 4 million to close to 7 million viewers since its debut eight years ago. Nothing earth-shattering, but still solid. It was a hit on Netflix as more fans began binge-watching the show, which Moore noted. It holds a respectable 67% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
If the budget isn’t too high, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, or even Apple TV+ could pick it up for another season. Unless another network or streaming platform picks it up, the show will end in May.
S.W.A.T.isn’t the only CBS show that Moore has been involved with. He first began his acting career with the network over 30 years ago, playing Malcom Winters in the popular soap opera,The Young and the Restless. He also co-starred onCriminal Mindsfor several years as Derek Morgan from 2005 to 2016, before taking on the role of Hondo forS.W.A.T.
Moore made sure to thank CBS if there was no chance of a ninth season pickup, but was quick to say no one involved withS.W.A.T.was willing to say goodbye just yet.
“Trust me, all of us, the family over at S.W.A.T., we ain’t done chasing bad guys and [performing] helicopter chases and motorcycle chases and car chases and blowing up stuff. We ain’t done.”
