Exactly one year ago today, 20th Century Fox handed out a August 17, 2025 release date for theirPoltergeistremake, although it was later moved to June 25, 2025. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything at all about this reboot in the year that has followed, and with just under seven months until it hits theaters, we still haven’t seen a trailer or any official photos yet. StarSam Rockwellrecently spoke withColliderfor his new film Loitering with Intent, where he revealed that the young boy is the protagonist of the remake, and that it is more of a “kids movie.” Here’s what he had to say below, discussing the differences between this film and the original 1982 classic.

“The 10-year-old boy is really the protagonist this time. JoBeth Williams was the protagonist for the most part in the first one and now the kid, it’s really through his point-of-view. So it’s more of a kids' movie so I don’t know if it’s gonna be like rated-R scary. It’s not likeThe Conjuringtype of scary. You know, it’s a different kind of movie. It’s more of an adventure. It’s essentially a child abduction film when you come down to it. I mean, the originalPoltergeistis too.”

The actor’s description ofPoltergeistas a “kids movie” will likely make some fans wonder whether it will be an R-rated thriller, or if it will be PG-13. We likely won’t find out the official rating for a few months, but fans hoping for an R rated version ofPoltergeistmay be out of luck. Coincidentally, the MPAA initially gave the originalPoltergeistan R rating, before producerSteven Spielbergtalked the MPAA into giving it a PG rating. When asked if he had seen any footage fromPoltergeist,Sam Rockwellrevealed that he has seen “a little” of the movie, confirming that it will be released in 3D.

“I’ve seen a little in looping. I hope it’s good. I really don’t know. I really wish I could tell you. I’m praying that it’s - I mean, it’s gonna be hard to live up to the first one. The first one’s pretty damn good. This one’s gonna be in 3D though, I can tell you that.”
