A ‘Lucy’ Spin-off Sequel Is Now in the Works

Lucyhas since become something of a cult favorite among action and science fiction fans thanks to Scarlett Johansson’s action hero turn, as well as the philosophical questions posed about untapped human potential. Considering the box office, it’s odd thata sequel has yet to materialize. Well, one is reportedly in the works, though it will shift the action from the big to the small screen. Back in 2022, it was revealed that aLucysequel is now in the works, with a spin-off series in development. The project will reportedly follow Oscar-winning actor and Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman as Professor Samuel Norman, the expert neurologist that Lucy turns to in the first outing as she slowly discovers what she is now capable of.

Details beyond that remain unknown but, with Freeman’s character expected to return, the series is likely to follow the kindly professor as he helps others achieve their potential and go beyond using just 10% of their brains. Director Luc Besson haspreviously addressed the idea of a spin-off sequel seriesto his 2014 sci-fi action hit. Besson said that, while he has heard aboutLucy 2, he is not currently involved (something which is unlikely to change following several allegations of sexual assault leveled at the writer and director over the last few years). While speaking with The Playlist, Besson said of the potential follow-up…

“Yeah, I heard that [was happening]. I even read that. Yeah, I was glad to hear [it.] I said, ‘Oh? Give me the script.’ You know, that’s the problem sometimes with the internet is I don’t know where [the information] comes from. Sometimes, I see that my name is on a movie that I haven’t been aware of.”
