Producers of theSicariofilm series are contemplating a third installment that could potentially see the return of the original cast, which includes Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio del Toro. The first film, released in 2015, introduced audiences to the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border. It centered on an FBI agent, Blunt’s character, who is enlisted by a government task force to combat the drug trade. Sicario: Day of the Soldado, released in 2018, continued the storyline, highlighting the escalating drug war as cartels began trafficking terrorists across the border. In the sequel, Brolin’s character, federal agent Matt Graver, and Alejandro, portrayed by Benicio, reteamed to confront this threat.
Speaking withCollider, producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill shared their enthusiasm for the project and their intent to bring the trio back together. Despite challenges posed by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, they remain optimistic about the prospect of the actors returning. The strike has caused some delays in the scriptwriting process, but the producers emphasized that those involved are well-informed and eager to continue the story.

“Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell… Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment. But we’re keeping all the talent informed. They’ve stayed close to it. Like Trent said, the strike has just slowed us down a bit on this last draft, but I think everybody is very excited. Everyone sort of knows the framework of the story and is very excited to, hopefully, get our shooting draft in order very soon.”
