This weekend’s box office battle is shaping up to be a real nail-biter, as two Warner Bros. movies are competing for the top spot, but which one will prevail? Per Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures' in-house projections haveSinnersgrossing between $35-$40 million its opening weekend, while independent systems have it on track to take in anywhere from $45-$50 million. The production budget for the film was around $100 million, so it needs at least $185 million to break even when you factor in things like marketing expenses.

While Warner Bros. will be laughing all the way to the bank this weekend, the real winners will be the fans in attendance at both movies. It’s been a minute since an R-rated horror film has generated as much buzz as Coogler’sSinners, so fans of the macabre will have something to sink their teeth into (pun intended) as they watch the director’s first foray into the genre. Based on the movie’s early reviews and 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, it seems as if they won’t be disappointed.
Those looking for something a little lighter will also have something to choose from this weekend inA Minecraft Movie, which is tops at the domestic box office this year after already overtakingCaptain America: Brave New World. Despite just a 44% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the Jack Black adventure based on the hit video game has captured the hearts of fans everywhere, who have propelled it to success. TheChicken Jockey controversy aside, longtime lovers of the game (of which there are millions) have enjoyed spotting the movie’s many Easter eggs, which include a tribute to one of its most beloved players: the late Technoblade.
