In a galaxy far, far away, there are over three decades of conflict in the everlasting feud between the Jedi and the Sith. When it comes to war, there are many stories to be told. Fans have learned that as they follow theStar Warstimeline. There are always 1000 moving parts in every great machine, and Dave Filoni is determined to show us every cog. Now is the time for a new chapter in the ever-expanding lore and a new chapter for one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters.
A couple of weeks ago, Disney unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series centered around Ahsoka Tano. The now-legendary Force-user has operated throughout the Skywalker saga, playing a key role in the cracks of the first two trilogies of films. And yet the saga goes on for nine, so it only makes sense that the Togruta warrior’s story continues. But when exactly doesAhsokatake place?

When Does Ahsoka Take Place?
A specific year is tricky to pin down in any of theStar Warsshows. It’s known thatAhsokatakes place sometime afterStar Wars Rebels, but some calculations may be necessary to identify where. The Mandalorianbegins about five years afterReturn of the Jedi, putting it in 9 ABY. Ahsoka made her live-action debut a year later in the show’s second season. Her show is supposed to be about a few years after, though, putting her story to be somewhere in the ballpark of 12 ABY, which is whenThe Mandalorianseason 2 andThe Book of Boba Fetttook place.
It’s not known at this time ifAhsokawill take place before, after, or concurrently withThe Mandalorian’s third seasoneither. Both Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have not been keen on revealing specifically how these shows line up chronologically. However, assuming thatAhsokatakes place at the same time as season three, that would put both shows around the 10-year mark after the Empire fell.

As far as where the show takes place concerningRebels, most of the Filoni-led series takes place between 5 and 1 BBY, beforeRogue Oneand the originalStar Warstrilogy. However, the show’s epilogue indicates a significant time jump to the end of the Battle of Endor. So that means that if Ahsoka’s series does take place in 12 ABY, then it will have been approximately 14 years since Ezra Bridger was lost in space and about eight years sinceRebel’sepilogue. However, this has yet to be confirmed. The exact timeline ofThe Mandalorianisn’t even clear. It may become so soon, though, as Filoni is currently working on aStar Wars moviethat is supposed to wrap the current era of the showMandalorianandAhsoka. Fans will just have to wait and see how things play out to know for sure.
What Is the Series About?
The Mandalorianseason 2 set up a big part of the plot forAhsoka: she is on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn. For those who don’t know, Thrawn is a villain introduced inStar Wars Rebelsand tested Ezra Bridger and his friends, both physically and mentally. Ahsoka stated her mission pretty clearly after her fight with Morgan Elsbeth that she’s after the Chiss imperial leader. Last we saw of Thrawn, he and Ezra were sucked into hyperspace when Ezra summoned a bunch of Purrgil whales to take them away into the vastness of space. These whales were seen again for the first time in live action this season ofThe Mandalorian, when Grogu saw them swimming alongside him and Din Djarin’s ship in hyperspace. While it’s only speculation right now, this is a big indicator of a tie-in to bothAhsokaandRebels.
