One of the most anticipated shows of 2025 has finally received an official release date. The prequel to theStephen Kinguniverse of moviesIt,It: Welcome to Derry, will release during the spooky season. TheHBOMax series will premiere in October 2025, though no specific date has been provided. The announcement was accompanied by a very eerie poster that will only build more hype for the Stephen King show.
Fans of the author’s adaptations will “go back to where it all began” in the upcoming months when the HBO original premieres on thenewly-rebrandedstreaming service (what started as HBO Go is now HBO Max, and hopefully it’ll stay that way). The first season ofIt: Welcome to Derryconsists of nine episodes, and it takes place in 1962, roughly 27 years before the events of the 2017 filmIt. The release date was announced on HBO Max’s X account with a post that reads as follows:

All roads lead to Derry. First stop: #SDCC.
#ITWelcomeToDerry is coming this October to HBO Max.
As reported byBloody Disgusting, horror fans fortunate enough to attend the San Diego Comic Con later this month will get their first look at the series. On July 26 at 9:15pm in the San Diego Convention Center’s Room 6DE, series creators and producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti will present the first footage of the first episode. Free ice cream will also be handed out to attendees, but the marketing team behind the show will also guarantee that other Comic Con attendees get a treat, as creepy clowns will roam the convention center and interact with fans.
10 Stephen King Movies That Would be Better as a Modern Miniseries
Stephen King’s movie adaptations are classics of their own. But have you ever wondered which would work better as a miniseries? Let’s take a look.
Muschietti, the director of bothItfilms, will be back to direct a few of the episodes. Showrunners include Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane (who also created theFriday the 13thprequel series,Crystal Lake). The cast is set to include Bill Skarsgård, who willreprise his roleas Pennywise the Clown, and also Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Chris Chalk, Madeleine Stowe, and Stephen Rider, among others.

‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Will (Hopefully) Have a Three-Season Run
There are already plans to make more seasons ofIt: Welcome to Derry, provided that the first one performs well. Muschietti had already teased that there was an outline for a second and third season, which would take place in 1935 and 1908, respectively. We’ll just have to wait and see if the series does well with users and HBO heads notice the potential of the show. However, given the success ofIt, arguably the highest-grossing horror film of all time, there’s a high chance thatIt: Welcome to Derrywill resonate with fans across the globe.
It: Welcome to Derryisnot based on a specific Stephen King book. It draws inspiration from the interludes of the 1986 novel, in which the character Mike Hanlon expands on the lore behindIt. This is likely why the series will explore the origins of Pennywise as he becomes the evil clown feasting on little children.
