Better lock your doors and windows!The Mistis creeping into TV from Dimension Television. Thissci-fi horrorseries will be based on both theStephen King’s classic novella and the feature film from directorFrank Darabont. At this time, no cast members have been announced. And it isn’t known ifFrank Darabontwill return to direct one or more episodes.

Coming off the success of the recently renewedScreamTV series on MTV, Dimension Television announced today that they are resurrectingThe Mistin a similar fashion. The project, which hasStephen King’s blessing, is acontinuing seriesfrom acclaimed writer Christian Torpe. Christian Torpe created the successful show Rita in Denmark, which is now finishing its fourth season. Christian Torpe has also been developed programming for both Showtime and AMC.

Using thebook and movieas influences,The Mistseries tells an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town but contains limitless havoc. From psychological terrors to otherworldly creatures, the mist causes the town residents' darkest demons to appear forcing them to battle the supernatural event. More importantly, it creates a war between the residents themselves that may prove to be even more deadly than this outside threat. About the series,Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, had this to say.

“The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we feltserialized televisionis the best place to explore them in greater depth. With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.”

Megan Spanjian, VP of Scripted TV, Matthew Signer, EVP of Production and Creative Affairs, and Keith Levine, SVP of Production and Development will oversee the project for Dimension TV.The Misthas not landed at a particular channel yet, and it isn’t known if this will be prepped as a much more violent cable offering or a network exercise in restrained sci-fi violence and gore. Despite its sometimes graphic themes, CBS actually turned out to be a good fit forStephen King’sUnder the Dome.

The Mistwas published as the first and longest story of the horror anthology Dark Forces in 1980. It would later be edited and republished in 1985 as part of Skeleton Crew. It was later republished as a standalone paperback whenThe Mistopened in 2007. The movie performed well at the box office and generated positive reviews. It starredThomas Jane,Marcia Gay Harden,Laurie Holden,Andre Braugher,Toby Jones,Jeffrey DeMunnandWilliam Sadler. It isn’t known if any of the original characters will be repurposed for the TV series.
