The return ofStranger Thingsto Netflix this year immediately had many other shows looking over their shoulder, and now the Creative Arts Emmys have given them another reason to do so as the show nabbed several awards. Among those was a win for Outstanding Prosthetic Make-Up, which was chiefly down to the work that went into creating the show’s villain, Vecna, who was portrayed mainly through practical effects and a suit worn by actorJamie Campbell Bower.Stranger Thingswas always expected to walk away with some accolades on Sunday, and it turned out that they did just that, as along with the Outstanding Prosthetic Make-Up win the hit horror series also took Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour), Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.Of course, one of the most talked about points ofStranger Things’fourth season was the use of music, which in addition to the new score, also featuredthe repeated use of Kate Bush’s trackRunning Up That Hill, which saw the forty-year-old track jumping to the top of the music chart around the world, and gave Bush a new career surge in the process. The news of the wins was shared byStranger Things’official Twitter account, which commented:
“Screaming so loud you can hear it from the upside down and back. Congratulations to our cast and crew on their 5 #Emmy wins!!” The Television Academy also congratulated the show, tweeting that Vecna was “coming for that #Emmy!”

Stranger Things’Jamie Campbell Bower Brought Vecna To Life in Season 4
The character of Vecna was created forStranger Thingsseason 4 by Barrie Gower, one of the people responsible for bringingGame of Thrones’villainous Night King to screen, and Gower previously commented that it was his work on Thrones that led to him being asked to design a similar character forStranger Things. However, behind the prosthetics, actor Jamie Campbell Bower was the one responsible for bringing Vecna to life, including providing that growling, terrifying voice. Although many believed Vecna’s vocals to be digitally created, Bower previously revealed:
“I went home and worked on it and did a bunch of reference work on like Hellraiser and [actor] Doug Bradley, particularly, and it said that, you know, this deep, booming voice kind of comes out of the darkness. And I was like ‘Yeah. You can tell.’ I loved it, it was amazing.”
Fans of the show are now eagerly awaiting the fifth and final season ofStranger Things, which will bring the story of Hawkins’ residents and Vecna to a close in no doubt horrifying and emotional style. With writing underway on the new season, there will still be a long wait ahead until the final reckoning arrives on Netflix. In the meantime, the first four seasons ofStranger Thingsare available now on Netflix.
