You loved it on thesmall screen. Now,Strike Backis about to explode across cinema screens all over the world! Yes, Cinemax’s hitaction seriesis coming back, bigger and better than ever before. Left Bank Pictures is currently in development on a feature film that will continue the story of this cult hit.
TheStrike Backmovie is still in the early stages. London-based LBP has struck a deal to develop the action-packed adventure alongside European pay TV giant Sky. And the hope is to havePhilip WinchesterandSullivan Stapletonreturn to reprise their roles once the film is green lit. Producers are currently in talks with Cinemax to join as a partner, and to insure U.S. distribution. As of yet, no domestic deal has been struck.
Once everything falls into place, which is expected to happen soon, Strike Back will shoot in South America throughout 2016. Left Bank Pictures and Sky’s main goal is to turn the pay cable series into a movie franchise.Strike Back Season 5brought the show to a close this past July. The plot follows the action-packed adventures of a secretive branch of the British Defense Intelligence service who take on high risk missions around the globe. Strike Back is based on a novel of the same name by former Special Air Service soldier Chris Ryan.
During a recent interview, former PresidentBill Clintonrevealed that Strike Back is amongst his all-time favorite TV shows. He claims to ‘adore’ the show, and will likely be first in line to buy a ticket when it likely opens in 2017. Though, no official release date has been announced yet. News of a Strike Back movie comes just on the heels of a wide spread rumor that Cinemax’s sister channelHBOwas going to bringGame of Thronesto the big screen. Thatrumor turned out to be false.
A U.K. tabloid claimed thatGame of ThronescreatorGeorge R.R. Martinhad confirmed the movie in an interview, saying it was moving forward without his involvement. Theauthorlater came out and called the story ‘fabricated’. While there is noGame of Thronesmovie in the works just yet, it has long been thought that the series finale would actually play out in theaters instead of on TV. While the show’s creative force have never said that isn’t happening, HBO seems opposed to the idea, saying they’ve promised their costumers a series, and they’re not gong to make them go to a theater to see the end of it.
Strike Back is certainly not the first pay cable TV series to find its way to the cinemaplex. Just this past summer, we saw HBO’sEntouragemake its comeback on the big screen.
