If you aren’t one of the 500,000 or so people who has purchased a copy of theSuicide Squadsoundtrack just yet, you may very well have been rewarded for waiting. Just as the news broke that the album had crossed the milestone, a collector’s edition of theSuicide Squad: The Albumwas made available for purchase. The new version of the soundtrack includes three songs that were not included on the original release: “Super Freak” byRick James, “Spirit in the Sky” byNorman Greenbaumand “I’d Rather Go Blind” byEtta James. In addition, the collector’s edition ofSuicide Squad: The Albumalso features the theatrical version of “Gangsta” byKehlani, which was played during the scene whereThe Jokerand Harley Quinn fall into the large chemical container.

Not only has theSuicide Squadsoundtrack sold very well, but the movie itself has done quite well at the box office. Despite getting trashed by critics upon arrival,Suicide Squadhas managed to bring in $721 million worldwide. Considering the movie featured a lot of largely unknown characters and was following in the footsteps of the much-malignedBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, that is pretty impressive. It looks like the strategy of including a bunch of popular songs alongside original score paid off quite nicely forSuicide Squad, much like it did for Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy. The soundtrack for that movie,Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1, sold more than 1 million copies and has been certified Platinum.Suicide Squad: The AlbumandAwesome Mix Vol. 1even share a song in common with “Spirit in the Sky.”

As of right now it looks like the collector’s edition of theSuicide Squadsoundtrack is only available on iTunes, but it seems very likely it will see some sort of hard copy release. Perhaps it will get a limited edition vinyl release, as has been the trend with popularmovie soundtrackslately. You can check out the theatrical version of “Gangsta” byKehlanifor yourself below.
