With production currently under way on CBS’Supergirl, a report surfaced last week that the series is currently seeking actresses to play Lucy Lane, Lois Lane’s younger sister who also transforms intoSuperwomanin theDC Comics. The Hollywood Reporterreveals that actressJenna Dewan-Tatumhas landed the recurring role of Lucy Lane. The character will make her debut in the show’s third episode.
Lucy Lane is described as “brash, funny and beautiful as her older sister Lois Lane,” and also “strong, smart and successful in her own right.” The report from last month revealed that, like in theDC Comics, Lucy is an ex-girlfriend of photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who is said to come to National City to, “right a previous wrong.” In the previously-releasedSupergirltrailers, it appears thatMelissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El develops an instantaneous crush on Jimmy Olsen, and with the arrival of Lucy Lane, it’s possible that a love triangle may be developing.
It remains to be seen whether Lois Lane will be featured in the show, but there have already been numerous references to the Man of Steel in the trailers and he shows up in silhouette in the pilot. We also don’t know yet if Lucy Lane will eventually transform into Superwoman throughout the course ofSupergirl Season 1, so we’ll have to wait and see. Production is currently under way in Los Angeles, with the series slated to premiere Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM ET. The one-hour series will then move to its normal time slot, Mondays at 8 PM, starting November 2, where it will air opposite another DC superhero adaptation, Fox’sGotham.
