Nearly a year and a half after it was first announced in October 2014, Syfy is reportedly close to issuing a pilot order for their new DC Comics seriesKrypton. The network hasn’t officially issued a pilot order quite yet, but if this show does move forward, it will be Syfy’s first entry into the superhero genre, joining a slew ofDC Comics TV showson other networks. If the pilot is officially ordered soon, hopefully casting will begin in the near future.
TV Linehas the news that Syfy may be issuing a pilot order soon, but it isn’t known when a final decision may be made. The story will center onSuperman’s grandfatheras he brings hope and equality toKrypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known. Back in October,David S. Goyer, who is producing and co-writing the pilot script withOnce Upon a TimewriterIan Goldberg, revealed in October that the story is set 200 years before the 2013 movieMan of Steel. The show will follow the House of El leader, whose family has been shunned by Kryptonian society, as he tries to build a better world.
Since the show is set centuries before the emergence ofSuperman, it remains unclear whether or notKryptonwill feature eitherKal-Elhimself, or his father, Jor-El. It also isn’t clear if this show will be adapted from any particular DC Comics story line, or if this show will tell an original story based on the Krypon mythology set forth in the comics. The show’s approach has been compared to Fox’sGotham, which shows young versions of Bruce Wayne, Jim Gordon and several of Gotham City’s iconic villains.
David S. Goyerwrote the script for 2013’sMan of Steel, which opened on Krypton briefly before the rest of the story shifted to Earth. The writer revealed in an interview from last year that he wanted to spend a lot more time on Krypton in the movie. Hopefully we’ll find out more details about the plot if Syfy officially picks up the pilot in the near future.
David S. Goyerwill serve as an executive producer alongside showrunnerDamian Kindler, withColm McCarthyset to direct the pilot episode. IfKryptondoes get a series order, it will join other superhero shows such as CBS’Supergirl, ABC’sAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.andAgent Carter, Fox’sGothamandLuciferand The CW’s growing lineup that includesArrow,The FlashandLegends of Tomorrow. If a pilot is ordered soon, and picked up to series, it isn’t known whenKryptonmay debut, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as more updates come in.
