WhenSupermanfirst revealed the “Justice Gang,” many fans – you know who you were – immediately broke out in hives and ridiculed the name to death. The latest short teaser for James Gunn’s upcoming DCU live-action opener has made sure to address this and prove that Gunn is a master manipulator when it comes to riling up an audience that just won’t wait until they see the full movie to complain about it.

Supermanhas had several trailers and TV spots released, all giving small glimpses at what fans can expect when they buy their tickets for one of this summer’s biggest movies. However, trailers are also very easy to misinterpret or can easily be edited in a way that makes viewers react in a certain way that gets everyone talking about a film – for better or worse. That has been the case with several elements ofSuperman, but it looks like those complaints about the trio of Hawk Girl, Mr. Terrific, and Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern being called the Justice Gang is pulling aThunderbolts-sized rug from under everyone.

Early Screenings Reveal ‘Superman’s Opening Scene Continues a Big Trend of Stealing From ‘Star Wars’

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Superman was born!

In the new trailer, the three heroes are seen after seemingly helping defeat one of the threats that will come to Metropolis inSuperman. During the brief interaction, Hawk Girl makes it clear that the name of the “Justice Gang” is currently a “work in progress.” It would naturally be assumed that over time, the name will change to something better known within comic book circles, although probably not Justice League – too soon, man, too soon.

‘Superman’ Needs To Be Seen in Full Before It can Be Criticized

After ditching the old Justice League crew to begin fresh, James Gunn’sSupermanwas always going to come under scrutiny for every little detail. So there has been a constant stream of negativity towards the movie on social media from those whodon’t like that David Corenswet’s Superman is vulnerable, those who don’t like his flying face, those who don’t want Krypto to be a shaggy dog and Lois Lane make jokes about Guy Gardner’s bowl-cut. And of course, those who just want big Henry back, dammit.

However, at almost every turn, James Gunn and his team have been there to fight fire with fire and ultimately giveSupermanthe chance to fly this summer at the box office – which it looks certain to do regardless of online trolling. This has included debunking several theories and complaints about the footage released so far, explaining why a highly criticized flying scene from an early trailer was never the finished article, and now showing that what you see in the trailers and marketing is not the whole story.

There is a strange line when it comes to movie marketing, in that audiences complain when they get to see too much, but complain and theorize bad things when they are only teased with half-stories and fleeting glimpses that don’t paint the whole picture. In short,Supermanis another movie that will likely prove the oldest theory in cinema to be correct once more – don’t judge a movie until you have seen the movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.’ rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
