Nia DaCosta and Tessa Thompson’s Third Collaboration
Heddamarks the third collaboration between Tessa Thompson and Nia DaCosta. Thompson starred in DaCosta’s debut film,Little Woods, in 2018. When DaCosta helmed the Marvel Cinematic Universe filmThe Marvels,Thompson reprised her role as ValkyriefromThor: RagnarokandThor: Love and Thunderfor a brief cameo. The duo has become one of the most exciting modern actor and director collaborations, alongside Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan and Destin Daniel Cretton and Brie Larson.
Heddais notable as the film that DaCosta began working on while in post-production onThe Marvels. While some suggested that DaCosta had abandoned the Marvel Cinematic Universe film forHedda, the reality was that DaCosta was supposed to have been finished withThe Marvelswhen she began work onHedda, but the MCU sequel was repeatedly delayed. And despiteThe Marvelsdisappointing at the box office, DaCosta has certainly bounced back:Heddalooks like a strong and possibly subversive period piece.

DaCosta’s next film to arrive in theaterswill be28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed28 Years Laterfrom earlier this summer.28 Years Later: The Bone Templeis set for release in January 2026, just a few months afterHedda, so DaCosta is looking at a busy few months.
