There, he encounters several familiar faces, including Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin, and the mob boss Carmine Falcone. The evidence slowly begins to lead Bruce Wayne closer to home, with Riddler’s plan forcing Batman to forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The Batman Director Has Described the Comic Book Movie as a Horror

Director Matt Reeves’ vision forThe Batmanwill straddle several genres, including horror, as the filmmaker brings the fear-factor loved so much by The Dark Knight to the forefront. “This idea of a place that is corrupt, and you attempt to swim against the tide in order to fight against it and make a difference, is quintessential Batman,” Reeves said. “And at the center of those noir stories is almost always the detective, right? And that’s why he is the world’s greatest detective. And so this story is, in addition to being almost a horror movie, and a thriller, and an action movie, at its core, it’s also very much a detective story. It’s very narrative.”

The Batmanis scheduled to premiere in the United States on August 17, 2025, and will be theatrically released on March 4.The Batmanwill stand separate from the wider DC Cinematic Universe, spawning a franchise all its own, with several spinoffs now in development.
